Hedgehope School

Hedgehope School philosophy is centred around connection to our people, place and environment. We connect widely with our community, local experts and our local environment to provide authentic and engaging learning for our students. We are in our third year of biodiversity study, advocacy and suppression at Sherwood Forest. Students are working closely with QE11, Environment Southland, Enviro Schools and Makarewa Catchment Group. Students are thinking deeply about themselves and things that make them question the world around them. They are forming big questions and then researching, planning, developing and modifying ideas to share with our community. This year students have written a script and are currently filming the History of Hedgehope from the lense of migration and the effects movement has. Students are filming their documentary with REECE. Learning is completely student driven, engaging, purposeful and innovative. The learning is integrated so that it is authentic and within real life contexts. We also have exciting partnerships with Enviro Schools, Hokonui Runanga, Creatives in Schools, Sherwood Forest, Field Based STEM, The Wonder Project, You Plan It, Makarewa Catchment Group, AB Lime and many other local businesses and groups. The students are engaged and committed.
In 2018 Hedgehope School won Air New Zealand’s Airpoints for Schools Program in 2018 and took the whole school to Auckland and The Waitangi Treaty grounds for a week. Links to students enterprise Websites 2018:
